Raleigh police seal days-long hunt for venomous zebra cobra with glue trap.

Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement,  law enforcement and animal control officers trapped the venomous snake on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night,  ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

To ensure fully removal of the glue from the cobra's body, we guided it into a red bucket and took it to a safe area.

As WRAL's cameras captured it earlier in the day, a striped snake slithered out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive and onto a porch. In looking around, the hood of the vulture was visible.

The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.

Early Tuesday, a 911 call from that home sparked the search.

The city of Raleigh, N.C., is the state capital. Following hours of consultation and preparation by Raleigh police and animal control officers,  a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a Raleigh porch Wednesday night,  capping a 48-hour saga that attracted national attention.

A red bucket was used to guide the cobra into a safe location so that the glue could be removed from its body completely.

The snake, a zebra cobra, can spit up to 9 feet and is faster than most snakes, making even a morning walk with the dog scary. It is very dangerous, according to the African Snakebite Institute. An animal's venom could cause the victim's nervous system to shut down.

One who is poisoned by the cobra would immediately feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. In the next few hours, a heavy fever would occur, as well as respiratory difficulty.

Avian and Exotic Animal Care is owned and operated by veterinarian Salina Locke.

There is no evidence that this species of cobra bites. Venom is more likely to be sprayed by them, she said; they are very accurate and aim straight for the eyes.

Despite the risks involved, Locke doesn't recommend buying this snake for a pet.

Most bites occur while people are sleeping. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.
